If you knit looser, go down to size 6.
If you knit tighter, go up to size 8.
It is highly recommended to knit a test swatch of 20 stitches and 15 cm in height to check this. The gauge is measured over 10 cm in length and 10 cm in height.
It may seem unnecessary to start with this, but the effort you put in here will ensure that you end up with a garment you can actually use.
